Your dog has an allergy if it suffers from rashes and has lost a lot of fur. Rashes are common when a dog is allergic. You can try a few home remedies to alleviate the allergy symptoms in your dog. The source of allergens could be flora, fleas, and even food. Do consult the veterinarian if needed.

Plastic out

The first action you take is to throw away the plastic food dishes. If the water bowl is made of plastic, junk it. Plastic containers after sometime develop minuscule cracks which may store bacteria. These causes reactions in the body of susceptible dogs. If your canine is sensitive to bacterial allergens in plastic food bowls, then feline acne would be seen. There would be also pimples or rash around the chin and the lips. It could also be around the ears or the eyes. Substitute plastic with ceramic, stainless, or steel food bowls. Keep all utensils sparkly clean, Wash the dish and the bowl in the dishwasher at least once every week.

Whatever you do, it is not advisable to apply tea tree oil on your dog. The tea tree oil results in nasty allergies and may even cause neurological reactions. Human acne medications must not be applied on dogs. This is as the human skin is much more acidic compared to your dog's skin. Irritation is a given when any human use product is applied to the dog. Use Epsom salts to cure hot spots and allergies. Soak the infected area of the dog with Epsom salts. Include areas like feline acne, feet, and hot spots. Repeat twice every day. This stops infection and reduces swelling. The dog should not ingest or drink Epsom salt containing water. Instead, use marshmallows as treats. Dogs love marshmallows and best of all, they are low calorie.

Use complete oil

The best way to treat dandruff and dry skin in your dog is to add complete oil to its diet. Examples of oils of this kind include corn, sunflower, and peanut. These oils contain all essential fatty acids. Give from one to a maximum  of three teaspoons of such oil with every meal to your dog. The amount of oil depends on the size of the dog. Do not give in excess however. Oils are fattening and a dog can suffer from pancreatitis if you feed it excessive amounts of fat. Use an oatmeal soak to soothe your dog's itchy skin. This is a mix of oatmeal in water. Rub the blend into the skin of the canine to relieve dry skin. It will also soothe the itchiness. The oatmeal blend should preferably be kept on the dog's skin for about 10 minutes. Rinse the blend off by using warm water.
